GrindPound – 100% Elaichi Powder (Green Cardamom Powder)

GrindPound 100% Elaichi Powder is made by carefully drying and grinding whole green cardamom pods — seeds and all — preserving the full natural potency of cineole, cinnamaldehyde, terpineol, and the rich bouquet of essential oils that give elaichi its signature sweet warmth, floral brightness, and deep therapeutic character.

Rightfully called the Queen of Spices, elaichi is today one of the third most expensive spices in the world by weight — after saffron and vanilla. Cardamom is obtained from the seeds of plants belonging to the Zingiberaceae family and is native to the tropical regions of southern India. Known in Sanskrit as Ela or Twak Ela, it has been central to Ayurvedic medicine and Indian kitchens for thousands of years — prized equally as a healer, a digestive tonic, a breath freshener, and an irreplaceable flavour anchor in everything from masala chai to biryani.

In Ayurveda, elaichi is considered tridoshic — uniquely capable of balancing all three doshas of the body: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Pure, single-ingredient, and free from any additives, fillers, or artificial fragrance — this is elaichi in its truest form.

Key Features

  • Made from 100% whole green cardamom pods (seeds and husk)
  • Carefully dried and ground to preserve essential oils and natural cineole
  • Intensely aromatic — sweet, floral, and warmly spiced
  • Tridoshic — balances Vata, Pitta, and Kapha
  • No additives, no fillers, no artificial fragrance
  • Naturally gluten-free

Health Benefits

  • Contains cineole — a powerful phytochemical that breaks down excess mucus in the respiratory passages, making it particularly effective for asthma, bronchitis, and congestion. Also acts as an antimicrobial and antiseptic to protect the lungs from bacterial infection
  • Stimulates the secretion of digestive enzymes — relieves bloating, gas, indigestion, flatulence, acidity, and stomach ache, and supports smoother overall digestion and gut health
  • Rich in potassium, calcium, and magnesium — helps regularise heart rate and control blood pressure, making it beneficial for those with hypertension and stress-related cardiac issues.
  • A powerful iron-rich spice that helps fight symptoms of anaemia such as dizziness and lethargy; also rich in Vitamin C, which increases the absorption of iron by cells in the body.
  • Natural breath freshener — chewing elaichi seeds or using elaichi powder in beverages actively kills halitosis-causing bacteria in the mouth and supports overall oral hygiene
  • Added to milk, it neutralises its mucus-forming properties; added to coffee or tea, it detoxifies caffeine and reduces acidity — a simple daily habit with meaningful wellness returns.
  • Possesses antimicrobial, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties — relieves nausea and vomiting, soothes coughs with mucus, and has long been used as an aphrodisiac in Ayurvedic tradition to support libido and reproductive health.
  • Rich in polyphenol antioxidants that combat free radical damage and reduce the risk of chronic disease
  • The essential oils — including pinene, terpineol, cineol, and humulene — contribute to improved digestion and metabolism.
  • Supports kidney health by acting as a natural diuretic, helping flush out toxins and excess water retention
  • Particularly effective in pacifying Kapha dosha — especially in the stomach and lungs — and in balancing Vata dosha; described in Ayurveda as Deepana (appetizer), Pachana (digestive), and Kaphaghna (Kapha-reducing)

Culinary Uses

  • The soul of Indian masala chai — add a generous pinch to your tea for that unmistakable warm, floral sweetness
  • An essential component of garam masala and whole spice blends for biryanis, pulaos, and slow-cooked gravies
  • Indispensable in Indian sweets — kheer, gulab jamun, halwa, shrikhand, rabri, and all mithai preparations
  • Adds an aromatic lift to lassi, thandai, sharbat, and rose milk
  • Excellent in baked goods — cardamom-spiced cakes, cookies, and breads
  • Pairs beautifully with coffee — add a pinch to your daily brew for an aromatic, Ayurvedic twist
  • Use in dry fruit laddoos, energy bars, and churans for both flavour and digestive benefit
  • Add to warm milk at bedtime for a calming, sleep-supporting tonic
  • A natural flavour enhancer in rice preparations, fruit custards, and smoothies.

Taste & Aroma Intensely aromatic and beautifully complex — sweet and floral at first, with a warm, gently spiced finish and the faintest cooling undertone. GrindPound Elaichi Powder perfumes a dish the moment it touches heat, filling the kitchen with one of the most beloved aromas in Indian cooking. A small pinch is all it takes to transform any preparation entirely.

Daily Wellness Ritual

  • Elaichi Chai: Add ¼ tsp to your tea while brewing — supports digestion, freshens breath, and neutralises tea's acidity
  • Elaichi Milk: Stir ¼ tsp into warm milk with a pinch of saffron at bedtime — deeply calming, supports sleep and immunity
  • Elaichi Water: Soak 2–3 crushed pods overnight in water, strain, and drink on an empty stomach — a traditional Ayurvedic detox for kidney health and metabolism
  • Elaichi-Honey Remedy: Mix a pinch of elaichi powder with honey — a time-tested remedy for cough, sore throat, and nausea.

Usage Tip A little goes a long way — ¼ to ½ teaspoon per dish is sufficient for full flavour impact in most preparations. For wellness use, ¼ teaspoon (approximately 1 g) once or twice daily in warm beverages is a safe and effective amount. Store in an airtight container away from direct sunlight and moisture — elaichi's essential oils are highly volatile and lose potency when exposed to air, heat, or light. Use within 3–4 months of opening for the freshest flavour and maximum benefit.

Note: Those with intense Pitta imbalance should use elaichi moderately. Pregnant women should consult their physician before using elaichi therapeutically in large quantities
